I think what @ridisneypinguy is getting at is, not every attraction has to be themed to what’s currently popular in order to be a success. Tower of Terror has a huge draw, numerous loyal fans (I mean look at all the extra merch they released when fans asked for it), and although it has a movie, it’s not a big franchise like GotG. To keep adding movie overlays to attractions removes the originality of the attraction, may or may not even work (Stitch’s Great Escape), runs the risk of alienating those who don’t like the franchise, and also risks the franchise dying out and no longer being popular, thus killing something that would have remained popular all on its own. I think it’s a little dangerous to keep wanting to take the approach that every attraction should have ties to what’s popular, plus, bringing movies into rides at a theme park is Universal’s thing (“Ride the movies”). Disney will lose some of what makes them unique if they appear to be acting like Universal as they move forward.
True. You both make good points.
I mean, I guess we can wait and see how GotG does in CA over the summer and then beyond.
May 4, 2017 at 3:29 pm #25694I hope they leave it alone. I am not a superhero fan. So I am one of those who would likely still ride it, but wouldn’t like it as much as like the current ToT.

I’m sure GotG will still be a popular attraction, at least for a while, but I don’t see why if they really have to do that they can’t just keep ToT and make GotG a separate attraction.

Case in point, this is an example of opinion that I wish Disney would listen to in general.
May 4, 2017 at 3:52 pm #25698You know what HAS worked? An overlay ala Nightmare Before Christmas/Haunted Mansion Holiday. It’s only different 3 months out of the year and then reverts back to the OG version. I’m ok with this.
May 4, 2017 at 3:53 pm #25701At best, it would be repurposed with a Star Wars theme, like CA TOT is Guardians of the Galaxy. I dont think closed is on the table with arguably one of the most popular attractions in such a small park
May 5, 2017 at 5:29 pm #25880Ok I would freak out if that was true ! I love TOT :'(
May 5, 2017 at 8:38 pm #25909My exact thoughts. They should’ve left TOT alone, and made a new GotG attraction. There’s loads of placed they can do that in the hollywood area.

Could be tough because the theming does not coincide close enough. But that would be ok… I would just have to remove that season from my trip possibilities. :p
