going to give it another listen and see if I catch it!
Did you catch it @stupidjudy?!
No, I guess my ears aren’t as fine tuned!
The trumpets at 0:26 — “If you had wings (had wings ((had wings)))…” and over by 0:32.
(I am a musician… not a runner! Some folks here enjoy 5ks and half-marathons, but that’s not my forte!)
April 21, 2017 at 12:52 pm #23337Ok, now I hear it! I am neither a musician nor a runner. If I am running it’s because something’s running after me!
April 22, 2017 at 7:02 am #23403I love the opening flute music on Living with the Land. There’s something about it that just makes me relax and feel like I’m there. It’s my favorite ride in all of the parks for some reason. I think because it’s one of the few old school type rides left at Epcot.
April 26, 2017 at 4:05 pm #24210I also like when Jeremy Irons speaks the first line in SE….”Like a grand and miraculous spaceship”. Gives me that goosebumpy feeling. I’ve gotten used to Judy Dench but it’s just not as powerful of a soundtrack anymore IMO.
There was one version of Illuminations where you could clearly hear the family talking and the dad was apologizing all over the place about having to take a call while what sounded like his son was yelling, “FIREWORKS FIREWORKS!!” and he tells his wife, “Are you getting this?” At one point the wife must make a comment about someone else’s behavior and the man says something like, “That’s why they’re the way they are, and we’re….not.” in a snide voice. lol It used to play on one of the Tunein stations all the time. I love to be able to hear the people on the ride or in line.
April 26, 2017 at 5:00 pm #24215Agreed, @Disneydana! There’s just something in that delivery. A grandeur. It’s too bad that Dame Dench didn’t quite capture that. And you’re right… Edo Guidotti’s score seems to have more gravitas. But I enjoy the rich waltz feel of Bruce Broughton’s replacement, too. It’s… brighter, overall, I think, for better or worse.
And aren’t those live recordings fun?! I tend to enjoy them only in moderation though. I tend to prefer the higher recording qualities of those that don’t have background chatter.

I think it all comes down to what you heard first. I know there are plenty of people that think it’s never been the same since Walter Cronkite’s version. I’ve heard that a couple of times along with that song Tomorrows Child and I find that pretty cheesy sounding. lol I understand your liking the higher quality recordings but for me the chatter makes me feel like I’m really there. There’s always some jerk talking through the whole ride. hahaha!
April 27, 2017 at 3:28 pm #24441@Disneydana — I think you hit the nail on the head. Definitely what you get used to!
Another one I love: Epcot – France Pavilion – Impressions de France. What a way to mash all those classics together! My favorite though is Clair de Lune at 5:20. I’ve seldom heard an orchestral edition of it, and never found one that added a choir to make it sound so angelic… the massive crescendos… the swell of exuberance! The music nerd in me lives for that precious minute of music!
And then the Innoventions loop came on: Epcot – Future World – Area Music. And at about 0:55… the flute and the subsequent release of tension into that gentle underlying rhythm… it just got me all excited for listening to that Innoventions loop! Just felt like it was drawing me into Future World. Ahhhhh… that’s definitely why we have D-COT!
April 27, 2017 at 5:37 pm #24460Horizons.
I Epcot – Future World – Horizons ~ Audio Only. There are other versions, but the glorious 31:26 edition provides so many of the tracks in their full glory, not just in snippets. My highlights? 14:30 — the Desert Farm scene. The harmonica is such a nice touch, and the warm, lush brass around 15:25 with “If we can dream it” are just a signal that all is well in the farmland of the future. But man, when SPACE shows up… 19:35… and the tracks with it… they layer in to create such a magnificent grandeur that is so reflective of space!
April 27, 2017 at 6:54 pm #24482Nice assessment PA_Timekeeper. I had not known/listened to that track nor visited Horizons (missed years @ the World).
For me, the same goes for Tapestry of Nations (missed years going ). I only know of it thanks to D-CoT, but @ ~ 8:30 starts
a melody that has made me happy for years. Especially starting at ~10:30 … goosebumps.April 28, 2017 at 7:27 am #24521Horizons.

I love classical music too! Although I can’t say that I know very much about it. I enjoy listening to it while I’m on the computer because it’s relaxing and I’m such a Jane Austen fan that I watch every and ALL Austen movies, along with any kind of period drama….especially set in the Regency era! Right now I’m making due with Harlots on Hulu. It’s actually holding my interest. Classical just makes me feel like I’m in another time.
June 29, 2017 at 1:36 pm #36127(Aside: I had “The Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe” from The Harvey Girls stuck in my head half the weekend — the version starting around 9:15 in MGM – Hollywood Boulevard – Area Loop!)
One of my favorite parts of Disneyland – Parades & Shows – Paint The Night is at 5:10 — the lush jazz harmonies of that ultra-tight sax section performing one of my favorite renditions of Baroque Hoedown to date! Might be my private highlight of that show. I had that wafting around my head for much of the weekend too!
June 29, 2017 at 3:00 pm #36145Really enjoying the xylophone(?) from International Gateway Area Music Loop at 22:48, I don’t know why that sound pleases me !

Another great clip from that? 8:35. I really enjoy that 50s Rock and Roll. It doesn’t sound generic… it sounds quintessential. I’d attend that sock hop!
July 28, 2017 at 10:00 am #41631Ok I love Sequoia Lodge. I know I’ve said it many many times but I really do. Especially listening to the birds in the background. It’s perfect for a long stressful day at work where I can at least PRETEND I’m somewhere awesome.

@Grumpytude would agree, right? In fact… what if we take the Sequoia Lodge music and birds to Wilderness Lodge?(But I truly agree with you Becky — it’s great stuff! )
