Got back out there on Monday for 5K run. I had a headache, so I figured I would run it off and it worked!
Distance: 3.11 Miles
Time: 0:40:19
Pace: 12’57″/mileApril 29, 2020 at 11:56 am #132715Hi there, I’m starbee I used to be a runner once, anyone remember me?
I did not intend to take such a long break from running after Dopey. I always intended to take the rest of January off and maybe even February. I had a pretty consistent weekly running routine for 3 years before I poured my heart and soul into 9 months of training for Dopey. I thought it was time for a break. I also wanted to focus on conditioning and strength training, as all my time went into Dopey and that all fell by the wayside. I need to get more strength and tone and lose some weight.
Right as the weather started getting better (I only run outside), and I got into a good gym routine, COVID punched us all in the gut. I lost all motivation for pretty much everything. I have been walking my dogs, but since gyms closed my workouts stopped and I never got back into running either. My local running store recently organized a challenge for the month of May – 31 miles in 31 days. You can walk it, hike it, run it, complete it however you’d like, but the goal is 31 miles in 31 days and as an additional challenge, everyone is competing against everyone else and the stats are shared. There will be awards/prizes for the “most committed” and “most miles achieved” among other awards to encourage you to go above and beyond the 31 miles. This was just what I needed so I signed up! And did I mention you get a t-shirt? I’m aiming for a minimum of 1 mile a day starting Friday it won’t all be running, but I’m looking forward to getting back out there!
April 29, 2020 at 12:17 pm #132717What a neat thing @starbee! We all need something to look forward to and a little extra motivation, I like what they’re doing! And it’s a good goal for anyone and everyone! You got this! We’ll be cheering you from here!
May 6, 2020 at 2:41 pm #133130So I wasn’t going to run for 3 weeks to heal my self diagnosed stress fracture but I’ve been doing so much resistance work that my legs are killing me.
(Last time doc told me to stop doing leg work as well as stopping running but I couldn’t cut all that out this time. it’s bad enough I’m stuck in the house for 23 hours a day)
Anyway, my legs felt like they needed to run. I’m so tight from the resistance work, I needed to go out for a quick run to open them up.
Was planning on doing 1 mile. I ran 2. Felt so good to be out there! My legs feel better too. Now I feel like I can wait out the remainder of the 3 weeks and I’ll be in good shape.
So Tuesday is my first real run day back.
Looking forward to it
☀️🏃🏻♀️May 6, 2020 at 4:38 pm #133141@missingWDW Be careful!
May 12, 2020 at 4:54 pm #133499@missingwdw it’s good to see you were able to do something without pain! I hope you were able to go out for another today!
May 13, 2020 at 10:21 am #133537Welcome back @starbee!
@nascfan thanks! I did get out yesterday for a couple miles. Starting back slow to be safe. I didn’t have any pain, but I felt crappy. Par for the course i guess. Three weeks off can wreak havoc on endurance
My half was rescheduled for November….I think…..so I’ve got nothin but time
May 13, 2020 at 10:44 am #133539@missingwdw not even worried about endurance. That will come back later. As long as you have no pain, that’s the best thing!
May 14, 2020 at 1:44 pm #133621Ran a 5K this morning. Slow as heck, but felt as good as can be expected. Didn’t feel great, didn’t feel horrible.
Think I’ll keep myself at a 5K for a week and then bump up my runs another mile the week after that. I felt like I could do more today, but I wasn’t pushing my luck
@starbee how’s you triumphant return to running going???
May 14, 2020 at 1:47 pm #133622@kcboston get the hell back on this thread!
I so miss your posts about running and the hilarious gif’s you would include!
Pleeeeeeease!!!!!
May 14, 2020 at 9:29 pm #133644Great job @missingwdw! Forget slow, pace doesn’t matter right now! No pain is the only thing that’s important. Do not push it too quickly or far, what you’re doing is just great!

I SECOND THE MOTION
May 15, 2020 at 10:21 am #133671@missingWDW Way to go! I like your plan, you did well not to push it. I guarantee you were faster than me! Post coming up about my running endeavors lately
May 15, 2020 at 10:28 am #133673I am so behind at sharing my return to running as a reminder for those just joining, I signed up for a challenge to complete 31 miles in 31 days during the month of May. It doesn’t matter how you get those miles in (e.g. 1 mile a day, three 10 mile runs, a mix of running and walking) the only rule is you have to be on your feet – no cycling. My aim was at least 1 mile per day so I was doing something every day whether that be running or walking. That quickly went out the window thanks to the ridiculous storms we’ve been having but I’ve still been staying active as best I can and I’m on track to complete 31 miles this month
Also I’ve been having some technical difficulties tracking my runs. It seems that after a recent update that Fitbit no longer breaks down your splits, or is that just an issue I’m having? My first run after Dopey did not completely sync for some reason, it said I ran 3 miles but had 0 steps so I have no idea what happened there. We have to use Strava for the May challenge so I’ve switched to using that after the Fitbit issues but that isn’t great either because it doesn’t show my progress in the same way. For example it will say 2.9 miles then 3.0 miles whereas Fitbit would say 2.93 miles etc and give you a more accurate distance so you know just how close you are to completing the next mile. But at least I have my splits!
May 15, 2020 at 10:28 am #133674Good morning! Today is day 59 of my running streak. Meaning, I’ve run at least 1 mile every day for 59 days
Some days I take it easy and just go out for a light jog and some days I go out and push myself for time. Either way, I’m getting out there. My mileage has not gone over 4.1 miles but then again I’m not necessarily training for anything. At this point, its mostly to stay a bit sane with everything going on.
Hope you guys are doing well.
