June 5, 2017 at 1:46 pm #31269First run back and my app decides to go wonky :hmmph:
My run time is estimated, and I can almost guarantee on the low side (there was no way my pace was as fast as it averaged out)… but 1.88mi in ~20min. plus 1.16mi in 19:06 of walking for warm-up and cooldown combined.June 5, 2017 at 1:52 pm #31271First run back and my app decides to go wonky

Great job getting out there! Miles are miles no matter the pace!
June 5, 2017 at 2:05 pm #31272For me, I only see the Virtual Races as purchased medals. My training runs typically average around 5k on weekdays, so to “earn” a medal for training run I (should be) doing 2-3x a week is not much of a push.
Knowing I have to show up to a race that there are hundreds or thousands of other participants at, though, is definitely pressure to watch what I eat and do my workouts. At one time I worried about coming in last. Now I am upset if I’m in the last 3rd. My hope is to finish top half of the standings at some point in my running career.
I know a lot of people hate on the Virtual Running Shorts, but as someone who could never do a 10k, half marathon or marathon at this point, and isn’t able to take a Disney trip just for a 5k race, it’s a way to push myself and get started in being a runDisney participant so I like it. But I get where you’re coming from for sure, if you’re running 5ks that often, it doesn’t do a lot for you. I wish I could run a 5k as a training run! I don’t have super crazy goals for myself, I just want to be able to run 1.5 miles without walking in under 14 minutes, and to be able to run a 5k without walking

By no means are they bad, please do not think that is my take…
They are just bad motivators for me. They do not have the right things at stake for me to get pushed and do not carry enough value for me personally. I’m happy they work for you (and many, many others). It is only serving to expand the sport and get more people out there, which is great.
I just need different motivation. I need the group around me, in front of me, and behind me (hopefully). I need the real race feel, and the looming risk of failure/embarrassment rattling in the back of my mind.

No I didn’t take it that way  I just know a lot of people (not necessarily D-Cotters) that have participated in runDisney events at the Disney Parks, hate on the Virtual Running shorts because they think it’s too easy for people to buy medals and act like they did something when they didn’t, cheapening the achievement of “actual” runDisney participants. While that’s possible, I think those haters are taking it too seriously. It’s pretty expensive to just buy the medals if you have no intention of actually running, plus what would you do with it? Wear it to the Disney parks? I doubt it. I’m the opposite to you, while I am currently so pathetic at running I don’t want anyone else around me! I got beat by children and an 80 year old (she told me how old she was) in my first 5k so the fact that I can run, feel like I’m running in an actual race, but not having the pressure of one is fantastic! But I’m an introvert and I know that isn’t what drives everyone.

As far as virtual races go, I’ve done a few myself. I have a buddy why runs a virtual race with his local 5k to raise money for his charity.
Even tho I’m running races and doing all this physical stuff, a few years ago I wss struggling to finish a 5k. We all have to start somewhere.
June 5, 2017 at 9:30 pm #31376We got in Asylum Volume 1: Speed & Agility this morning! It’s been a couple years since we’ve put this series in. We need to work on our cross training and strength. Plus I really need to drop a little weight to be more comfortable running. 45 minutes of insanity this morning! :p
