@ridisneypinguy ….. which then will help with your PDD because that will be another vaca in the works
Like I said, vicious circle
June 2, 2017 at 10:35 am #30783Let me preface this by saying we don’t run. My knees have been abused to the point that they won’t allow me to run for long distances anymore and my wife never has. Plus, well, we’re old and so we walk. Now, we walk very briskly mind you, we completed our first 5k at our zoo in just over 55 minutes, at a 17+ minute/mile pace. We were very happy about that as we set a hopeful goal for ourselves at an hour! We are currently in training for the Dark Side 5k at WDW next April and our goal is to walk/jog to around a 15 minute/mile pace, or at least under the 16 minute/mile that Disney sets. We are also doing a Pancreatic Cancer 5k on 6/17 in honor of my mom who passed away from the disease in October. And we are signing up for a nighttime 5k with our Metroparks in July!
Since we don’t run, if you all would rather keep this to only runners, I will leave. You’re perfectly welcome here bud. This is more about support and accountability then anything else.
June 2, 2017 at 10:36 am #30784I currently have no races planned, however my husband and I do have a friendly competition going between the 2 of us. We do what I call ‘baby runs’, in that they are all under 4 miles each.
I would be so thrilled if I could run 4 miles!
June 2, 2017 at 10:42 am #30785No races officially scheduled. Training has been too inconsistent for me to commit the funds, which then hurts my ability to commit to training… It is a vicious circle. I need a rD event to get be back on the straight and narrow
Not saying everyone should do this, but that’s why I signed up for the Virtual Running Shorts series. I will slack off on running if I don’t have anything I’m running for. Last year I was training for a 5k and when that was over, stopped running. I’m hoping these 5ks will help to keep me getting out there regularly I know I can’t do a runDisney event at WDW anytime soon so I’m loving these virtual races!
June 2, 2017 at 10:43 am #30786June 2, 2017 at 10:59 am #30794Hi all!!! I’m looking forward to this accountability group!! We’ve been running almost non-stop since August due to running 4 half marathons between November and the end of April. We’ve hit a bit of a rut/lull for the past couple of weeks. I think our bodies are just needing a little break for a bit. We will be back at it this weekend. We will be hitting up early morning runs from here on out because it’s crazy hot here already. I don’t have any races on the books until Dopey in January at WDW! Which kind of stinks because that’s a long way off to stay motivated. However, it will be our first full marathon and I think that fear alone will help keep us on track! I’ve never ran more than 14 miles at once. So there will probably be a lot of tears of accomplishment during our training runs that go beyond that! I’m a walk/runner and use not set ratio. I just listen to my body each run. I run 3-4 days a week with shorter runs on weekdays and progressively longer runs on weekends. Everyone is welcome here @nascfan!!!! I’m excited for you and Kathy to run the Star Wars 5k!!!!!!!

For me, I only see the Virtual Races as purchased medals. My training runs typically average around 5k on weekdays, so to “earn” a medal for training run I (should be) doing 2-3x a week is not much of a push.
Knowing I have to show up to a race that there are hundreds or thousands of other participants at, though, is definitely pressure to watch what I eat and do my workouts. At one time I worried about coming in last. Now I am upset if I’m in the last 3rd. My hope is to finish top half of the standings at some point in my running career.

Have fun!
June 3, 2017 at 7:26 am #30936Does anyone use Garmin connect to track their runs? I do, and it’s set to live broadcast my run via fscebook and Twitter. Look me up, under Matt Litchfield for both.

I hope you enjoyed your 5K!!!! I got in a 3 miler before work today!
June 3, 2017 at 3:30 pm #30968Got in a 3 miler before work today. Not going to lie, it was a bit of a struggle since we over indulged in food out in Phoenix last weekend! :p Gained a few pounds. Ran in my new Brooks Transcend’s and a running skort! I was having a killer time finding shorts that worked for me. Ran in the skort that has shorts with the tacky strip and they didn’t budge!!! It’s the little things!
