We’ve got a trip coming up in August for 7 nights at POR. I don’t drink soda, but thinking of still purchasing the Rapid Fill mug for coffee, iced tea or water. We’ll probably buy a case of the 12 oz Dasani in the gift shop but I keep thinking it would be nice to have some ice in a cup by the pool—since it will be so hot. It will still be worth it, don’t you think?
June 21, 2017 at 10:05 am #34332Well, that’s a good question. A mug is $18. A pop, iced tea is listed in the same category, is $3.29. I don’t know how much coffee is but let’s go based on that price. If you get 4 iced teas or coffees in your mug, in my opinion you are ahead. That’s because you get to take the mug home and use it as a souvenir. The refillable mug is one of the best values at WDW in my opinion, based on the number of times it takes to fill it before you “earn” your money back and get basically a “free” souvenir that way.
June 21, 2017 at 10:20 am #34340We used to get those, but not so much anymore. Still I see the value in it for some folks. Some years ago we got the dining plan and these came standard with that. I would get some tea or soda and pop into the arcade a while in the evenings then get another refill and go back to the room. The mugs were great for that! I can see them being a similar advantage for you if you plan on spending time in any common area of your resort during your stay.
Side note: This question makes me chuckle a little bit because this topic was one of hot and heavy contention on another website, so much that moderators had to at least temporarily ban it as a topic. The silly things people will argue over!

And that’s why a lot of us are here

Amen sister!
June 21, 2017 at 11:44 am #34357That’s what I thought…. And in August, I know I will spend a good bit at the resort by the pool—unless it is raining. I don’t know where our room will be but I will enjoy getting a cold drink with ice.
June 21, 2017 at 2:40 pm #34409okay not to be devil’s advocate, but we were JUST there and i noticed two things:
Arguing against: You can get ice and the sweetened ice tea without having the refillable mug (technically only the pop checks). So technically you could bring an old mug or any kind of random mug and get ice or tea.
Arguing for: I’m not one for taking my mug to the parks but there are a few restaurants that have self-serve pop in them and you could fill your mug (although THESE machines do not check so once again you could use any old mug – it just looks better to have the most recent version).
next time we plan on bringing an old one for me since all i get is tea and letting hubby buy a new one for pop.

June 22, 2017 at 8:25 am #34465I think it is a good value if you use it, we get it with the dining plan but my husband is the only one who uses it for his coffee

Well, I DO my coffee in the morning.
June 22, 2017 at 9:00 am #34470Really stupid question here since I’ve never bought a resort mug at WDW, can you only refill them at your resort? Or do they have somewhere you can use them at the parks? I know Universal Orlando have two separate mugs: one for the parks, and one for the resorts. You would have to buy both to use across the resort. I don’t know how it works at Disney

Not a stupid question. They are usable across all Disney resorts, all of WDW and including Vero Beach. So you can combine a beach stay with a WDW stay and not have to purchase a separate mug. The use does not cross into the parks however. That being said, you can take any leftover drink at a restaurant and pour it into your mug, “to go”, for ease of carrying. We do that all the time. That way we can buy one large drink between the two of us, for a whole lot less than two regulars, and have plenty leftover for the mug at the end.
June 22, 2017 at 9:24 am #34476Although I’m not a big fan of the dining plan, the mug is worth it’s value if you are going to be using it at the resort, or like other said, in the parks at a buffet or as your “to go” cup. AND if you are a soda drinker. I’m not a big fan of soda, juice, coffee, etc. We usually stick to water and Disney water is yucky LOL. So, we bring bottled water and milk for the kids. I’ll have the occasional Pepsi when I have a headache, but Disney doesn’t carry Pepsi, so I bring that too

Kathy smuggles Mountain Dew! She actually had someone offer to buy her can of it once!
The pop is our coffee in the mornings there since we don’t drink coffee. We never drink it in the morning here, and really only mostly on the weekends, but just need that extra caffeine to make those rope drops!June 22, 2017 at 10:08 am #34485i saw tons of people filling up their mugs at restaurants like Restaurantasaurus and Backlot Express. No one checks and people bring their mugs and fill them there.
