July 28, 2017 at 2:37 pm #41718Marty was an icon to the Disney Parks along the way, he was elected as the Disney Legends in 2001 and became ambassador for Imagineering . I read his book Dream It! Do It: My Half-Century Creating Disney’s Magic Kingdom it’s a great book. We will miss you Marty :'(
July 28, 2017 at 2:44 pm #41721This one hurts. It hurts bad. He was a direct line to Walt and Walt’s vision of the theme parks and the whole company really. One of the last direct ties to Walt.
I agree with everything you said!

We’ve already got a thread going here: https://www.d-cot.com/topic/matry-sklar/ so I’m going to go ahead and close this one just to keep things in one place and neat and tidy, k?
I agree, he will be missed so much. So much of Walt’s vision was carried on by him.I merged the two threads so we can keep all replies and related content on this topic together
July 28, 2017 at 4:24 pm #41737I just read the news on Disney Parks Blog. So sad. What a guy! :'(

I couldn’t have said it any better.
When I read Kingdom Keepers, I picture the character ‘Wayne’ to be [like or inspired by] Marty. Disney and all who love it have lost someone and something that truly could never be replaced.
YES!!! That’s exactly who I pictured as Wayne too!!!! This is such a sad loss to the Disney community and family. Marty was one of a kind and really helped to bring Walt’s vision to life. He will be greatly missed. My heart hurt when I heard this news.

Bob Gurr and Richard Sherman are two other names that pop into my head. Not too many left for sure. Makes me sad.
July 29, 2017 at 1:08 pm #41793MY heart hurts over this. Marty was such a big part of my long time enjoyment of all things Disney. We have season passes to the 1964/65 World’s Fair in New York which started my love for all things Disney and the ideas of story telling and customer service. He is truly a Disney Legend. My heart goes out to his family and the Disney community. The good thing is his spirit and many of his creations will live one. I for one, will ride small world and carousel of progress when I get there in October. Until then I will go light candels at our local monastary so is way will be lit to meet up with all of his friends in the D-cot of heaven. :'( Rest in Peace my hero!
