The Great Movie Ride will be so missed!! My Disney “addiction” was started, and fostered by my grandparents who took me to Disney every year when I was growing up, they loved telling me all about the old movies like Casablanca, Singin’ in the Rain, etc and TGMR would be a must do every trip, it became our favorite ride to do together, mostly for the nostalgia… They are 91 and 88 now and can’t make it to the parks anymore but I will always remember that special time with them!!! It will be so missed.
August 8, 2017 at 8:33 am #43286My favorite part of the Great Movie Ride was the ALIEN scene! I loved seeing Ripley and anticipating the alien drop-in…and then of course, looking for R2 in the Indiana Jones scene! I’m sad I won’t be able to see it one more time, and even more sad that I *gasp* never got to experience Universe of Energy… :'(
August 8, 2017 at 9:56 am #43333I will most definitely miss The Great Movie Ride. That is such a classic and iconic ride. I love so many things about this ride because I love movies! I love the look of the Chinese Theater facade and hope that they don’t change that. That’s been there since the park opened. I would be terribly sad if they changed that and I don’t really see the need to. I loved all the movie previews playing in the queue line. It’s a great way to help pass the time and it makes the wait seem much shorter. The end of the ride when they put all the best parts of the movies together is my favorite part. The GMR is one of the things I remember most about my first trip to Disney when I was 6. The Alien movie scene scared me half to death lol. This ride will always have a special place in my heart.
The UOE was always great of a 40 minute nap in the A/C or heat if it was cold outside.
Ellen was a great host!August 8, 2017 at 1:23 pm #43392What I’ll miss most about the GMR is the montage of classic movies and film scores. As for Universe of Energy, I remember loving the dinosaurs there from my first trip when I was five years old.
August 8, 2017 at 2:39 pm #43395Out of the two I’ll definitely miss going on the Great Movie Ride. I grew up getting to experience that ride and I think it helped to contribute to my love for movies. I can’t think of one single thing that is my favorite because I loved the whole ride. I was even lucky enough to take my one year old on it last year and she loved it! I just hate that she won’t get to go on it when she’s older and can remember the experience. We also got to take her on UOE and she enjoyed that as well!
August 8, 2017 at 4:57 pm #43422I will the Great Movie Ride because it was a lovely homage to the old movies, but most of all I will miss the film montage at the end. It always got to me for some reason.
As for universe of energy, I loved riding it, but it always took so long….
I hope that whatever replaces them will be fun, informative, new and technologically advanced!
If I don’t win a t shirt, does anyone know where I can get one? :'(
August 9, 2017 at 7:46 am #43449UOE…
I’ll miss cuddling with my husband through the slow, but funny, quick witted ride.
I’ll miss the time when my baby slept soundly on my lap
I’ll miss Willard Scott telling me that “It’s gonna be a cold one out there!”
I’ll miss the lady who had to “break” the ride, by getting up and leaving after the doors of the cars shut.
I’ll miss my boy being in LOVE with the dinosaurs as we journeyed back in time.
I’ll miss the dream sequence.
I’ll miss Stupid Judy.Farewell UOE! I have many fond memories of you, and so happy that I was able to learn from you!
August 9, 2017 at 8:18 am #43456I will miss the updated GMR preferably the sorcer mickey part and the film segment at the end. Always got goosebumps at the “Gooooooooooooood Mooooooorrrrrrning Vietnam” part and the “STELLLLLLLLAAAAAAA” part.
As far as UOE I’m still partial to the OG version. The Ellen one was ok but thought her preshow was better than the attraction. So I’ll miss the dino’s and the smell of the jurassic period!August 9, 2017 at 12:45 pm #43527Very sad to see The Great Movie Ride go. My daughter and I loved doing this together….I think I will miss the memory of being with her and enjoying all the old Hollywood movies together. We would try to do both sides in a trip…the gangster side and the Western side….loved seeing the old movies on the big screen again.
August 10, 2017 at 7:45 am #43593I always remember the Wizard of Oz part of the GMR. I loved the movie as a child and wanted to go to Oz, and when we went to Disney are rode this ride I felt like I was there. It was so real.
UOE – would have to be all the EMPTY Rows, and even “cars”. IT really made the ride seem huge. And I’ll miss the napping portion of the ride.August 10, 2017 at 11:31 am #43670You know what I’ll miss the most?
Stupid Judy.August 10, 2017 at 12:38 pm #43733While I will miss the Great Movie Ride, especially the montage at the end, I am even more upset about Ellen’s Energy Adventure. Riding through the dinosaurs and hearing all the funny banter was a highlight of our trips! Goodbye Ellen and Bill, so glad I got to ride both attractions this past March. :'(
August 11, 2017 at 10:16 am #44003The more I think of both of these closing the sadder I am getting. I know “Uncle Walt” said the parks would never be done, but it is so hard to let the attractions we all love so much go into history. I am so happy that I rode both twice when I was there in February. I never do that, I must have “known”.

August 11, 2017 at 12:07 pm #44040I will miss Universe of Energy the most, the building is beautiful and the ride vehicles were unique ( I guess they somewhat resemble the ones in GMR now that I think about it). It is one of the last somewhat original rides, I am sure they will replace it with something awesome with newer technology but it’ll never be the way it used to be! I have fond memories of 80s Epcot, it will live on in my mind!
GMR’s older finale used to get me all choked up, the latest version not as much. Looking forward to what they will replace it with.
Let’s see what happens!
The bing bang? The piggy bank? The ding dang? Stupid Judy, stupid energy.
