#112 – I think someone on the FB post summed up my feelings pretty well. None of it matters anymore since they took the waterfall out. It’s just a regular hotel/resort now. All the uniqueness and what made it special is gone. ((shrugs shoulders))
September 3, 2020 at 12:22 pm #139444112 – From what I’ve read it’s not a “Theme” so much as a update with Moana “touches”. I’ve not yet stayed there, was supposed to be where we stay in March 2021, but it’s still up in the air at this point. Anyway, I think I’ll be okay with it, but I’m not a die-hard, stayed there a thousand times person.
September 4, 2020 at 5:34 am #139495112 – Moana is one of my favourite films, love it and the poly is one of the hotels/resorts that I have dreamed of staying at. I spend so much time there whenever I go just taking in the atmosphere.I think as long as its not Moana everything it’ll be a nice wee freshness to the resort.
September 11, 2020 at 9:11 am #140487112 – i think it’ll fit in just fine. probably little touches in the rooms, products in the shop, etc. i doubt you will walk in the door to a giant Hei Hei in the lobby
September 11, 2020 at 9:35 am #140491112 – I don’t really have an and issue with this as an overlay , once again as long as it is tasteful.
The way I see it is this closure is not that long, in terms of Disney closures, so how much can they do? I would think the time frame, reopening summer 2021, is just enough time to replace furniture, carpets, bedding, paint and new artwork, but no major structural. Also, in Disney’s defense, it lets them reopen a “refreshed” opening day hotel in time for the 50th! Ahhhhhh, that fresh paint smell. Perhaps they could add fresh concrete and asphalt daily to get that “opening day” feel. Now, with that said, wouldn’t it be cool if they could do a hologram of the original lobby in the lobby that they could turn on and off for the 50th?
And bring back the plastic trees at the CR!
I think it would be neat for the 50th for the Poly, CR, TTC & MK to each have a “pop up” museum going thru the history of each with photos, film, artifacts and such. Of course that would be a big one for the MK, but I have a plan! And each day for rope drop play Roy’s dedication speech. Serious Disney Corporation, contact me, I have big plans for you!
September 11, 2020 at 10:26 am #140499112 – I really miss the water and the smell of the lobby.
September 12, 2020 at 8:24 am #140534I’m one of those that enjoys when Disney adds more Disney to things. If I want to go to a strictly Polynesian resort, I’ll go to the actual Islands. I think all things at Disney should be centered around Disney IP. But that’s just me. LIke I wouldn’t mind seeing every country add a ride at Epcot based on the characters from those countries. I don’t think the rides take anything away from the areas. Maybe not as completely Disney as they did with Frozen, but peppered in like the Mexico boat ride. (which needs to be Coco if you ask me because the 3 Cabeleros is the most boring cartoon known to man and not a kid on Earth knows them) Still teach us about the area, but add the IP to make it a whimsical story and not so educational only. So yeah, I will like the subtle Moana theme. I also don’t believe that it will be a total Moana resort but I’m expecting some Tiki’s and murals here and there. Maybe a new bedspread and artwork. I sure like Moana better than Stitch. Stitch was one of those movies where, by the time Stitch decided to stop destroying everything, I was already so annoyed with him that I didn’t care that he became good…so I don’t like him. lol Bring on that goofy looking scrawny chicken!

I do too. I’m not so much of a fan of the pumped in floral smell that they made to replace the water smell. I don’t know what it is, but the strange smell of the water in Orlando is what we are all drawn to. When you think about it, it doesn’t actually smell good. It’s just that it’s so unique that we now associate it with Disney and particularly the Poly. It does still smell that way outside the front door though.
September 12, 2020 at 8:40 am #140536As a DVC member, I had a 2 week stay at the Poly and was less than impressed. While I enjoyed the theme, it really falls short of the real thing in Hawaii. Also I had other issues with the resort as a whole like maintenance. Plus like others, I missed the waterfall. I found the only things I really liked there were the view from my balcony, the gift shop and the Tonga Toast at Captain Cook’s. So, they could theme it whatever and I still wouldn’t really want to stay here.
September 12, 2020 at 2:35 pm #140559110) I’ve never been to either, so I’m not too sure ☹
111) Too long! Its now 11 years!
112) I’ve never stayed, but I think the theme atleast suits the resort 😊

Fell your pain…We haven’t been since 2006
September 14, 2020 at 10:59 am #140670112I mean, they kind of go together, right? I’m not sure how I feel about anything getting completely re-themed to a movie outside of it being a ride. A hotel? Nah. Just keep it Polynesian themed and add some Moana stuff in there.
October 5, 2020 at 5:09 pm #141497If no body minds I got one for you all. If Walt Disney was to come back for a day what would you show him in WDW?
October 5, 2020 at 8:03 pm #141498I think I’d take him to see Animal Kingdom. It was kinda one of his dreams to see a park on that scale with live animals. That or Hall of Presidents since that was another of his dreams.

I’d show him the direction the company is heading so he can right the wrong
