As I read this, I feel humbled that you took the time to look at my post and respond. You made my night! Thank You!
February 13, 2018 at 9:12 pm #66448I have no comprehension of how a 3-D printer works. It blows my mind. And then I see what you are doing and my mind gets blown the rest of the way!! I’m glad you are painting it. If you left it white, I’m afraid it would get really dirty with dust, etc. The paint will help with that. This is AMAZING!

Thanks Ferg… When I first got the printer, someone could have told me it was running on Magic and Pixie Dust and I would have believed them
It took a while, but now I know that the Great and Wonderful Oz is nothing more then a guy behind a curtain. Nothing magical at all, just a robot running on motors.
You bring up a good point. We are looking to have a custom display case made for it to keep the dust off but here in my area, plexiglass requires you to remortgage a house. If anyone here knows how to get some cheap plexiglass that will work for the castle, or possibly even willing to send me some, I can print something for you in exchange within reason. Just a thought
February 13, 2018 at 10:18 pm #66469I wonder if there is some kind of trophy display type thing on the web you could order cheaper than getting the plexi glass?

That was one of our first ideas. our second idea was a square aquarium. Both epic fails. I forget why the trophy case ended up not working now,,, Will look again and get back to you.
February 25, 2018 at 10:11 pm #67782Hi Again All!!!
For those that have been following along with the Castle build, He are a few updates.
After working on the pillars to project “Once Upon a Time” and “Happily Ever After” I printed some quick pillar prototypes to check scale. Not 100% happy with them but with a little modifying they will look great!. I have to say, the side pillars looked amazing when projecting the new shows. (Can’t wait to share those videos)
I am also designing the restrooms that are attached to the second pillar you see while at the Magic Kingdom. This is also coming together nicely.
Annnnnd… Thanks to an amazing designer Tuan Vu,
I was able to use his Stage files and with a bit of modifying, seen below, I started printing the full stage in the front of the castle. I re-designed it so that I could remove the section of the bridge that was already printed and attach it to the castle when needed. It would attach with railings to the existing Castle and slide right on the bridge. These will be 6 pieces at 12 – 18 hours a piece.
As you can see, by one of the pics labeled, “Failed parts”. The downside of this project is each of those parts where 12 hours of printing and only after, did I realize my design needs tweaking. Did this twice before getting it right.
This happens a lot
So.. With some trees to throw in some color and some buses to boot, Things are shaping up!
Will keep ya updated!

February 26, 2018 at 11:15 am #67824This is looking AMAZING!!! Did you print the buses too? And the trees?! Amazing!
I also didn’t realize how big the stage is until you see it from above.
February 26, 2018 at 5:14 pm #67866@twinbob What program are you using and how hard is it to learn how to model?
I would not be ashamed to ask a price in the 3 digits.
Okay then, $1.50 it is. (Think he bought it?)

I actually found the buses in Disney World this month at the Art of Animation Resort. I thought it was awesome that they seem to be in N scale. So I grabbed them. The trees where purchased at Hobby Lobby. Will pick up some evergreens this week.
I did not realize the size of it also until I started working on it. And now, I realize it is actually larger then in the picture because after printing the second part last night, It was still not scaled correctly. Off to the drawing board.
Will update shortly

February 27, 2018 at 8:14 am #67896Eventually, when I have free time and some money (they are currently mutually exclusive), I would like to do a full Castle, hub and main street. But I dont see that happening anytime in the next 5 yrs or so.
February 27, 2018 at 9:06 am #67903The enhancements and additions are awesome! I love how this is coming along!
February 27, 2018 at 9:41 am #67907This looks incredible! Paint or no paint. I am in awe of how it turned out!

I’m with him! This is unbelievably incredible! Especially with the projections too! I would have believed that was footage from the Magic Kingdom! What an interesting and unique hobby! I do not have the time or patience for that
