The Rock posted on Instagram a couple days ago that the upcoming Jungle Cruise movie he’s starring in will result in the “re-engineering and re-design of the Jungle Cruise ride in all the Disney theme parks around the world”.
I am not very happy to hear this right now. I don’t see the point in making a movie about a theme park ride to then change the theme park ride to reflect the movie. The Jungle Cruise is a classic that’s still popular and still hilarious. Doesn’t sound like they’re talking about adding a couple extra animatronics like they did with Jack Sparrow on POTC. I can’t imagine how they could “re-design and re-engineer” this ride in a positive way. My initial thoughts and feelings right now. What are yours?

May 2, 2017 at 11:22 am #25181@starbee I feel the same way. While I can say that I am very interested in seeing The Rock in a movie about the Jungle Cruise and all of the misadventures that he will experience, I am not interested in seeing a different / re-imagined Jungle Cruise attraction. I feel like the Jungle Cruise is a classic that shouldn’t be revised too much from the original. The additions to POTC were subtle and they enhanced the original ride. Hopefully Disney won’t go crazy with the changes….
May 2, 2017 at 11:24 am #25183I’ve seen a lot of articles about it, but I also found this one:
Disney Has No Plans To Change The Jungle Cruise Attraction, Regardless Of What The Rock Says
May 2, 2017 at 11:25 am #25184I hope this isn’t the death bell for Skippers. The cast members make the ride the timeless classic it is.
May 2, 2017 at 11:31 am #25185Initial thoughts, too many unfounded rumors yet. We’ve got two completely opposite reports from two different sources right here in this thread alone. Will have to wait and see what, if anything, happens.
May 2, 2017 at 11:37 am #25186@acamm Right? I’m fine with the movie, I’m fine with subtle additions, not okay with a complete overhaul
@RIdisneypinguy I’ve read speculation that Skippers would be removed if these plans come to fruition. They are the last spielers :'( and you’re right, it wouldn’t be the same without themMay 2, 2017 at 11:39 am #25187@bpellinen I hope that article is true! I feel like Disney wouldn’t confirm what the Rock is saying at this stage, they’d want to make the announcement themselves. I think there’s still time for them to change their tune, not that I want them to.

I don’t know what to think anymore. I thought the gondola idea was absolutely ridiculous but it looks like that’s going ahead, so I don’t feel like changes to the Jungle Cruise will or won’t happen at this stage. Could go either way.

It is tough watching ‘our Disney World’ change, and with all of the ways the ‘World is different, it seems there is constant anxiety of “What’s next?”

Yep. That’s why I’m adopting a wait and see stance at this point.
May 2, 2017 at 11:56 am #25191@starbee I’m in 100% agreement with your initial thoughts.
May 2, 2017 at 1:18 pm #25202Define “change”. PotC changed a little, but it didnt mess with the overall ride. That being said if they are going all Maelstrom on the Cruise, I think there would be a huge backlash.
If you ask me, there are some rides that are basically out of play when you talk about change. JC is an original and its design was heavily influenced by Walt. I can see things being added like they did with adding princesses to It’s a Small World, but I do not believe you will see a replacement.

I think with current Disney brass, nothing is out of play; and Walt’s influence, vision, ideals or just about anything else, is nothing more than a line in a press release statement to them.
May 2, 2017 at 2:42 pm #25230Just when I thought a Jungle Cruise movie with “The Rock” was the worst idea I’d ever heard … I read this.
I’ll wait and see but… I’m going to be really upset if they mess with that ride. Because if they mess with that one… there really is nothing sacrosanct in the park.May 2, 2017 at 2:47 pm #25233@ridisneypinguy No kidding…I remember not that long ago when before a Disney movie, when they showed the castle it said “Walt Disney”. Now it just says “Disney”.
