Upcoming Changes to Epcot
With so many changes coming to Epcot, we are highlighting some of our favorites.
New Entrance
The “Leave A Legacy” boulders were removed earlier this year to prepare for an updated plaza that will welcome Guests with green spaces, new pathways and a newly re-imagined fountain. Don’t worry, those boulders are being placed just outside the touchpoints with enhancements making them look better than ever.
Updated Spaceship Earth
The attraction is scheduled to close early 2020 and re-open in 2022 for Epcot’s 40th anniversary. With such a long downtime, you should schedule a visit before is closes! With the refurb, a new narration and musical score will follow a magical “story light” that brings the entire experience to life in dynamic ways. Each scene will receive robust energy and beauty that ties the entire journey together.
Dreamers Point
This new view of World Showcase will take your breath away as you exit Spaceship Earth. Included in this will be a new statue celebrating the legacy of the original dreamer, Walt Disney. Natural environments and global design elements including a wishing tree in an enchanted forest and a story fountain.
New Pavilion
This new pavilion will be the perfect place for live events and all of Epcot’s signature festivals. It will provide a remarkable, elevated view of the parks and an ideal location to enjoy Epcot’s nighttime spectacular.
Space 220
Expanding on Mission: SPACE (although some of us might like to see Horizons return) will be an all-new dining option. Space 220 will be a culinary experience featuring the celestial panorama of a space station, including daytime and nighttime views of Earth from 220 miles up. The new dining adventure will open this winter.
Nighttime Spectaculars
“Epcot Forever” is a temporary show that debuted on October 1, 2019. The show is set to classic Epcot tunes, the limited-time show begins with a spark of imagination that quickly grows into an epic spectacle of fireworks, music, lighting, lasers, and choreographed, special effects kites. You can read our review on it here.
“HarmonioUS” is the permanent replacement for IlluniNations: Reflections of Earth and is labeled as the largest nighttime spectacular ever created for a Disney park. This show will feature massive floating set pieces, custom-built LED panels, choreographed moving fountains, lights, pyrotechnics, lasers and more.
Are you excited for these changes? Which one is your favorite?

I guess my favorite is the new nighttime show and Space 220. I hope I can eat there on my January trip!

I think the new entrance will look really nice. I just know I will hate seeing all those walls on my next trip, but am making myself remain hopeful for the results

Does anyone know the projected date of Spaceship Earth’s closure and refurb? We have a trip planned in late February and we are really hoping to enjoy it a couple times before they shut it down.
