-
Oh no how sad I know they maintained them as long as possible with benefits. Even with getting busier In FL I guess having CA keeping them closed it’s no other choice
-
It’s very sad, no one can hold a grudge on this statement that’s a bunch of bogus. What happens when someone who is in quarantine to fill in their hourly shift? This doesn’t make any sense.
-
Very awful news. My prayers and well wishes go out to anyone affected I hope all of them can come back to the magic someday
-
This is all so very sad. Maddening really. I feel horrible for these people.
-
This can be quite devastating for those involved and sad to contemplate.
I do applaud Disney for what they have done for their cast members. Coming from the oil and gas business where it is hire on Monday and mass fire everyone on Friday with no notice the concept of furloughs is some what foreign to me. We let our contractors go back in March and have been having periodic Reductions In Force ever since as we finish or loose jobs.
The part of Mr. D’amaro comment that worries me a little is “emerge a more effective and efficient operation when we return to normal.” Does this mean less CMs and more technology? Now, fair enough, he does say “Our Cast Members have always been key to our success.” Anyhow, it will be interesting to see what happens. In Disney’s history from to there have been plenty of ups and downs. Kinda like the weather, wait a bit and it will change. I am really surprised at how many “big” projects (Tron coaster, Reflections DVC, Poly update, Walk from GF to MK, Star Wars hotel, and all the stuff at EPCOT at WDW alone) they have chosen continued with. You could say they have decided to trade CMs for construction workers at this time.
Now, to give a good spin on this situation and end on a positive note, I like to think about the fact that those cast members let go are “on the market” and can bring what they have learned about bringing the magic to other companies OR start their own businesses.
-
Yes I think that comment you mentioned from D’amaro is incredibly insensitive. In my opinion it reads like “we never needed you anyway!”
-
-
I’m glad Disney did what they could for these CMs. I am very sad for them because this sucks but I’m not mad at Disney because this isn’t their fault. You don’t really need a ride attendant when your ride isn’t running. Of course I don’t know who they’re cutting but it seems there would be some obvious choices. I’m just mad at the universe for all this $#!@. The knock on effects are infinite and there’s no end in sight.
-
Be mad a China. CA too since they’re not lifting restrictions and DL can’t open. Mostly China, though.
-
-
It is so sad. I do hope that we can soon be “back to normal” and all of the CMs can come back. This whole year has been just an employment disaster…. I’m so lucky to still have a job that keeps me busy all the time (paralegal)

Obviously I’ve never seen them play but this makes me sad. I just feel bad whenever something that has been around for such a long time is so abruptly removed I always feel that pang of sadness.
-
Very disappointing to see this. The Grand Flo won’t be the same without them. They’ve been there for as long as I can remember… I wish them all the best and pray they can stay on their feet in these times
-
Oh man, this makes me so sad. They always added so much to the ambiance and feel of the resort, and it was something special that you just couldn’t find at any other WDW resort. They’ll be missed for sure.
-
This makes me so sad. Such a mainstay, such wonderful talent and one of the touches that made Disney special. It breaks my heart to see the place I once loved so much become just another run of the mill operation.
-
They add so much to the Grand Floridian experience! Just to stop in, sit in the lobby and listen to them play was a most relaxing experience. Definitely took you back to a more genteel time of elegance and gave you a bit of a slowed down pace in the hustle and bustle that is a Disney vacation. It is just another one of the Disney extra touches that has slowly been stripped away over the years, making it harder and harder to justify the expense of a Disney vacay. It is the end of an era.
-
I’m deeply sadden about the group are retiring, however the albums will to be sold until they are gone from the shelf.
-
They were so awesome to just and listen to. They will be missed by many!!!
-
“Please be assured that we have shared all of your feedback with the appropriate Executive Leadership Teams” yeah, shared it with their trash can! as if sharing guest opinions makes any difference. I’ll never forget the skewed Pleasure Island survey when Disney was trying to make their research line up with their plans instead of making plans based on their research.
“It’s a real shame to see the extra things that make Disney special being slowly stripped away – especially when we know the execs still got their bonuses!“ PREACH IT!!!!!!!!!
No Richard, no orchestra, is it even the Grand Floridian anymore?

The frozen cider looks delicious! I’m usually always disappointed with dessert options. I’m vegan and they don’t make much that I can eat at WDW.

yummmmmm the pumpkin ice cream looks sooooo good to me! and of course the bucket is wonderful!!
-
Last year I had the Constance’s for better or worse Wedding Cake that raspberry Bavarian cream was the kiss of death including the chocolate hatchet was a nice touch. I’m glad it came back so that every the guests didn’t get a change to try it.

my only question is…how on earth do you get to the popcorn in that bucket?

I don’t even like popcorn that much but love that bucket!

It should also be noted that you MUST bring extra masks. Over time, the humidity and breathing will make your mask damp and sometimes wet. The CDC also recommends changing masks every two hours. Plan accordingly.
-
That’s really good advice. I hadn’t thought of that!
-
-
Seeing all these posts on WDW opening up, makes me wish I lived closer….
-
I feel like they’ve made appropriate changes for safety. If they can just keep people social distancing – which admittedly is going to be the hardest part. If I didn’t have to take a plane to get there, I’d definitely be willing to go.

I saw that for next year but I am not in a place to be able to book yet just praying that when/if we can that we can get into parks for any of the days if they are already allowing reserving through Sept 2021. it will be an interesting few years for Disney. but we do always like a could Springs and resort days, so this just might make us have a couple more than expected.

In response to COVID-19, Disney has been doing everything it can to start opening its gates to Guests. Last week, Disney Springs opened with its first phase. The big question is when will Disney’s U.S. theme […]
-
If they start that, I think people are going to want it to continue forever
-
Virtual queues will limit the number of attractions you can do in one day. I think that once people see that they will want to get rid of them once the pandemic is over. Disney may want to keep them though because then they will be able to more tightly control crowd flow, numbers of people per day on the attraction (and thus CM staffing), and closing times. No more “in line by closing, and you ride!”.
-
That’s a very good point! A virtual queue is not something I want to be the norm so I hope Disney doesn’t use this as an excuse to permanently implement that process
-
-
The only issue with this in regards to social distancing is that instead of barely anyone being in line, you’ll now have everyone wandering about the park. You can see how congested Disney Parks are during a typical normal day when there are no virtual queues. You’d REALLY have to limit how many people you can let into the park at any given time if you eliminate ride lines.
-
This is a really really good point. Im curious what their limit for guests per day will be (tickets sold)
-
-
This will be very interesting to see how they make it work. The last thing I would want is for people to virtually hop in line for a ride without having to actually go to the ride and to have that “feature” stay permanent after the pandemic wave subsides. This was and continues to be my beef with FP+. I liked that people had to make an effort to physically go to the attraction to pull a pass for later. With virtual queuing in place it could make it potentially impossible for someone coming into the park in the evening to ride anything. Look at RotR. If you’re not there at park open, you’re out of luck!
As to people wandering the park instead of waiting in line, here I think Disney has a more hybrid approach based on what I’ve seen. Your time comes up in the virtual queue and then you get in the physical, socially-distanced queue for the ride. It’s not like FP+ where you essentially walk on in 5 or 10 minutes. There would be the virtual wait followed by the physical wait. I think that part is smart, but only for the present circumstances.
-
So what you’re saying is you think this will work like the boarding groups?
-
I’m saying in one way it probably will, but in another way, I hope it doesn’t. There are some queues that really are part of the story and I’d hate for them to be bypassed altogether. You can enjoy them without packing people into the room like they did before the pandemic. I just hope that if you are in one virtual queue, you can’t also be in another one at the same time. That would be unfair since under normal circumstances, you could only join one line at a time anyway.
-
Yeah I know what you mean. If Universal is anything to go by, that’s what they’re doing. They’ve stopped all pre-shows for the time being and re-routed some queues that involve crowded waiting areas. Like you said, I hope they don’t make that permanent. There are some rides I’m fine not to FP because I want to enjoy the queue.
-
-
-
-
We kind of have that now with Fast Pass. The difference is, Fast Pass is designed around people waiting in other lines, so they can speed through a high population attraction.
-
i kinda dig the whole virtual queue idea (at least for the more popular rides, and assuming it works like a boarding group.) i also think without fastpass lines are gonna move A LOT faster
