Looks like they changed the menu significantly since we last visited. No more fish, no more filet of beef. Now it’s sausage and pot roast? I like sausage and pot roast, but if I was really hankering for either of those I’d go to Biergarten or 50s Prime Time I also hear the “fresh” foods are less fresh. The price tag is the same though. Sounds like more Igernomics
But I’m not one to take other folks’ word for it, so I’m still gonna try it before I pass final judgment. Though as a precaution, I switched our dinner reservation there to a lunch reservation. That usually results in lower price for AYCE places like this, and I’ll be taking full advantage of the AP 20% discount.
July 13, 2017 at 11:07 am #38528We will be there in September and having breakfast. Now you have me curious!!! I hope it is as good as it used to be!
July 13, 2017 at 11:16 am #38529Haven’t seen any complaints regarding breakfast
July 13, 2017 at 11:20 am #38531We were there in January for dinner and it was actually very good! I have to confess it was my first time, so I don’t have much to compare it to, but I thought the food was great – the pot roast was excellent. And my 2 year old finally got to meet Mickey! Would not hesitate to go again!
July 13, 2017 at 11:35 am #38532Thanks for the encouraging report @kimmykay1122 ! We booked it because we wanted our first time guest to have a good experience and a no-hassle way to get a photo with Mickey. The menu change was a bit dis-heartening to read about, but it’s good to get reports that folks are still enjoying it
July 13, 2017 at 11:41 am #38533Hmmmmm… when I think of Garden Grill, I think of FRESH FOODS. Isn’t Sausage very processed??
July 13, 2017 at 11:52 am #38539Good point @acamm – I won’t lie, it didn’t really feel like a totally farm to table experience but the food was tasty. I like when fresh foods are served raw and light so you get to enjoy them. This is a heavier menu.
With sausage, I don’t think it has to be so processed – it can be fresh ground meat put into a casing. We get sausage at our local farmers market all the time (so much better than at the grocery store).
July 13, 2017 at 11:57 am #38541@kimmykay1122 yeah I just feel like pot roast and sausage is not what I envision for ‘The Garden Grill’ I’m envisioning grilled chicken and grilled fish… but then again… what do I know
July 13, 2017 at 12:12 pm #38543@Acamm Right? Especially since they farm raise fish in the Land pavilion, but last I checked, there’s no pigs running around But seriously I’d prefer fish to sausage (processed or not). As for the beef, no matter what they do, there better be some pink and red in that stuff…still mooing would be even better!
July 13, 2017 at 12:24 pm #38549we have a breakfast reservation this time. My initial feeling toward this is regardless of whether the food is good or not, the changes don’t seem like an appropriate menu for that restaurant in its location. That sounds about as logical as hot dogs in Morocco to me like you said, more suited to Germany or 50’s Prime Time. But if the food is still good, it isn’t all bad. You’ll have to give us your review when you return Jet!

perfect phrase! Yes, in my mind it appears they keep arbitrarily changing menus. Why would you remove waffle fries and brisket from Golden Oak to replace it with chicken nuggets? Why has Pecos Bill’s gone from barbecue to Mexican food? Why can you get pineapple Dole Whip floats but no vanilla? None of this makes sense to me, but it keeps happening. And now again with the Garden Grill menu :|
July 13, 2017 at 12:27 pm #38551Oh, I hope not… January of 2016, I cannot recall if the beef was filet or not, but there definitely was fish. We also had sausage on our platter. Food was very fresh and very good. A lot can change in 18 months, especially in the world of Disney dining. Hope to hear positive things upon your return.
July 13, 2017 at 12:42 pm #38552Yes, in my mind it appears they keep arbitrarily changing menus.
YES! I “love” how companies (not just Disney) almost seem to say, “Hey this is working out great! We should change it though so people get less for their money.” Because that always works out :p That kind of thinking gets you gains in the short term, but not so much in the long term.
July 13, 2017 at 2:10 pm #38576Oooh, fish would be such a better fit for that restaurant. The menu would be more suited for 50’s Prime Time or if they opened up a Thanksgiving restaurant LOL. It’s not a light meal, that is for sure.
You’ll have to let me know if you found it tasty Jet!

It was great on our last 2 visits (prior to the menu change of course)! The bread was fresh and flavorful. The salad was AMAZING. I’m not a salad person, but it was really super fresh and light. The filet of beef and the fish (usually tilapia) definitely merited seconds. The turkey was great one visit and OK the other. I guess that’s why I’m disappointed in this menu change most of all because I was looking forward to those dishes again. At least they kept the salad!
