We are going to spend more time in the theme parks this year as we bought a unlimited 21 day pass and so wanted to find out what everyone’s picks/opinions were on table service restaurants. It’s something we haven’t done before and I know they get mixed reviews.
April 27, 2017 at 6:12 am #24261For us, table service restaurants are a must must must do! It’s a great time to take a little break from the heat and usually an awesome experience. Here’s some of our must do every trip :
Magic Kingdom :
Be our Guest (Ambience, the food and you can get to meet the Beast)
Hollywood Studios :
Mama Melrose No particular reason, we just love it! (Penne a la vodka )
Sci-fi dine in We love the ambiance (You get to eat in a car while watching movies) and we love the foodAnimal Kingdom :
Tusker House We love this restaurant for breakfast there is so much stuff to eat and you get to meet Mickey and Pals (Buffet)
Yak and Yeti the food is really goodEpcot :
First of all this park as the most table service options of all the parks !Garden Grill : Family style all you can eat food in a slowly rotating restaurant with Mickey and pals! The food is really really good and the atmosphere is awesome!
All around the world in world showcase you get a Table service restaurant in pretty much every country (All but America)
We love : Teppan Edo in Japan (Hibachi style) , Le Cellier Steakhouse in Canada and Via Napoli in Italie! Those are our favorite!
I could go on and on and on with table service restaurants that I appreciate! Look for the type of food you are looking for, restaurants styles and you won’t be disappointed
My biggest advise would be go with your own guts ! Go on the Disney website and look at the menus, read about all the options ! Don’t pay much attention to the reviews! You will love your experience!
Have fun!!
April 27, 2017 at 7:01 am #24266@xxzazzzxx I TOTALLY agree with your Mama Melrose pick! I know it gets bad reviews a lot of times, however, my family LOVES its to the point where we have eaten there so many times we don’t even need to look at the menu!
Actually, I would agree with EVERY single one of your choices. Great list!!!
April 27, 2017 at 7:08 am #24267I agree with the already suggested picks. I’ll also add Jungle Navigation Company Skipper’s Canteen at Magic Kingdom. We definitely enjoyed that experience from our last trip!
Yak & Yeti at Animal Kingdom is also a favorite of ours.
Biergarten at Epcot is worth the trip if you enjoy German food like we do! (heavy on pork, potato, and cabbage, but there are other things).
April 27, 2017 at 7:20 am #24270@DA07DDA My pics, if I had to choose today, per park are:
Disney Springs:
The Boathouse – We actually ate outside at the bar right on the water, and were able to order from the regular menu. I was impressed with the QUALITY of food.
Raglan Road – Irish dinner with a show right in front of you while you eat. This is a family favorite of ours. Good Fish & Chips!
Wolfgang Pucks (dining room) – I have nothing bad to say about this experience. The food has always been above average for Disney, and its worth every penny! The Salmon is spectacular!
Morimoto Asia: Sushi, Sushi, SUSHI! So good… and the decor in this place is phenomenal!!EPCOT:
Rose & Crown – Bangers & Mash ? Yep they got it and its delicious!
Via Napoli – Pizza and Pasta and all the wine!
Le Cellier – If you want a steak – go here >>>> its amazing.
San Angel Inn – omgosh I can’t say anything bad about the food here. Just YUM!
Chefs de France – Perfectly seasoned Chicken and veggies and French Wines in a fancy setting.Magic Kingdom:
Be Our GuestAnimal Kingdom:
Tusker House (its a buffet, but I really enjoyed it!)
Yak & YetiHollywood Studios:
Mama Melrose – its so good… seriously! The atmosphere is so relaxed, and the food is DELICIOUS!Resorts:
Boma – Yeah its a buffet, but don’t let that fool ya! The food is spectacular, and it another family favorite!
Ohana (breakfast) – So good… eating at the Poly with Lilo & Stitch is always better when there are Mickey Waffles involved.
Whispering Canyon – All you can eat BBQ skillets…. the baked beans are amazing.I’ve eaten at a lot of WDW restaurants, and there are several with really mediocre food but terrific atmosphere or character experiences. The ones that I have listed are restaurants that have delicious food and that I would definitely return back to! I hope this helps!
April 27, 2017 at 7:35 am #24273I don’t think there’s a bad choice in here, some of my personal favorites:
EPCOT: Biergarten, Via Napoli, Le Cellier (pricey but the steak, you don’t even need a butter knife to cut it), Garden Grill
MK: Cinderella Castle (again pricey, but for a true once-in-a-lifetime experience, can’t be beat), Be Our Guest (dinner is the only TS here), Liberty Tree Tavern
AK: Tusker House, Yak and Yeti
Studios: 50s Prime Time, we really enjoy Sci-Fi also, even though I might get ripped for it, the atmosphere is top notch and we’ve never had anything less than very good foodApril 27, 2017 at 8:04 am #24282April 27, 2017 at 8:09 am #24283@nascfan Sci Fi …. I love the restaurant… just not the food
I understand it’s that way for a fair number of people. We’ve just been never anything less than highly satisfied. Are we lucky? Maybe so, I don’t know.
April 27, 2017 at 8:38 am #24298I’m of the opinion that if you’ve gone to Disney a bunch of times (we’ve been over 20 times) you’re bound to have a negative experience somewhere, even Disney can’t be perfect 100% of the time, so I would take bad reviews with a pinch of salt. I also think people are far more likely to give a bad review than a good review, so keep that in mind also.
I’ve had bad experiences at places I haven’t read people complaining about, and I’ve had stellar experiences at restaurants I’ve read people complaining about. You do what you wanna do!
Some of my favorites:
Magic Kingdom – Liberty Tree Tavern
EPCOT – Garden Grill, Coral Reef, Restaurant Marrakesh
Hollywood Studios – Hollywood Brown Derby (you can combine this with a Fantasmic Dining Package), 50’s Prime Time, Sci-Fi
Animal Kingdom – Tusker HouseApril 27, 2017 at 8:54 am #24304I’m of the opinion that if you’ve gone to Disney a bunch of times (we’ve been over 20 times) you’re bound to have a negative experience somewhere, even Disney can’t be perfect 100% of the time, so I would take bad reviews with a pinch of salt. If theres even 10 bad reviews out of a couple 100 thousand served I think its safe to say its still a good joint! Plus It’s getting harder to please this instant gratification generation! Cheers
April 27, 2017 at 9:57 am #24348I know they get mixed reviews.
This is the second day a question like this has been raised on a Disney board I read.
So much entails a review. I am a foodie. I live to eat. I revel in my 3 meals a day. My wife, eats to live. crackers and cheese with a v8 is fine. THANK GOD I DO THE COOKING!!!!!!!
Our reviews will differ greatly.
Other things that can influence is where one grew up. My wife grew up with meat, taters, salt and pepper. I grew up with a mother who immigrated here from Germany and a father who was 1st generation American from Italian immigrants. He used to joke that our family came over to America on the Pan Am.
I grew up with a decidedly European palette.
Their experiences and influences will guide how we review food. Meatloaf is a great example in my family. To my wife its ground beef, salt, pepper, bread crumbs eggs and Ketchup on top.
To me, it is ground beef, ground pork, ground veal, salt pepper, rosemary, thyme, garlic, onion, tomatoes……..
I will always take a review more to heart if I know the perspective of who gives it. When I say The 50’s Cafe meatloaf is the best I have ever had, and my wife says, it was just okay, I know why we came to those conclusions.
April 27, 2017 at 10:11 am #24358Now, for my tastes
First, i wish to say I have never had a bad dish. That being said, some of much better then others.
MK – I have not been blown away by any table at MK. Did lunch at Be Our Guest and it was good, but not mind blowing. The grey stuff was good, although I wouldn’t say delicious….
Epcot – Food Heaven. Having a Euorpean palette, EPCOT lends itself to the open minded eater. Being German, I can say that Das Biergarten is authentic, if you like German. I have eaten in each country and was not disappointed. of all the places, Coral Reef was most disappointing to me, although, again, it was not bad
AK – Tusker house is a great counter, but if you ask me, take the time to go to Sanaa or Boma. Outstanding, memorable, worth the time to get there.
The Studios – 50’s cafe for me. Im not even a Betty Crocker style eater, but the food is magnificent here. Sci Fi was disappointing to me. Get the meat loaf
The real challenge: Planning the meal.
When I do WDW I eat dinner at 1:30. After, I head to my hotel for that afternoon nap (highly recommend if you have young kids). For me, because I am a foodaholic, the challenge is hitting the best places, and frankly, they are not all in the parks. Do not forget the hotels have great places as well. Being a foodcentric person that creates some challenges. If youre eating to refuel and get back to the attractions as quickly as possible, dont focus too much on the tables.
In the end, you have to consider who is eating. The meal plan is expensive to use for just kids meals. However, if you have a family that enjoys new things, I suggest the Counter/Table/2snack meal plan.
April 27, 2017 at 10:20 am #24360Enjoying looking at menus and planning thanks for all your input.
April 27, 2017 at 10:21 am #24361Are there any in the parks you’d definitely stay away from
April 27, 2017 at 10:32 am #24367@DC07DDA That’s probably another case of ‘personal preferences’ …
Personally I am not in a hurry to go back to Akershus in Norway because I didn’t care for the food. The cold bar was food that I was not familiar with, and I didn’t really like. Also, my meal of meatballs was not very good, but was bland and slimey.
I also did not personally care for T-Rex in Disney Springs because the food was sooooo mediocre and I could have eaten the same meal at Applebees at home. Plus it sounded like I was inside of the Dinosaur ride at AK because it was so loud!
