What restaurant really surprised you, in a good or bad way?
Personally, I had a horrible time at The California Grill. We went there the day after we got married last month and it was just mediocre at best. We weren’t near the windows, which I get, not everyone can be, but for all the hype it just wasn’t worth it for us. A lot of people highly recommended it, so I was pretty let down. What about you? Where have you had a really good or bad experience that you weren’t expecting?
March 22, 2017 at 9:39 am #18808I remember the first time that we ate at the Rose and Crown, we were so surprised at how delicious and perfectly cooked our food was! I had read some bad reviews online, so we weren’t really expecting too much. Since that time, we have eaten there 3 more times and have had equally good meal experiences.
Another was Nomad Lounge. We were super shocked at how amazing this place is! We have only been there 1x for appetizers and cocktails, but we are going again this September. Its not a full restaurant, but its definitely worth a trip!
TRex was a HUGE disappointment for us. The food was super mediocre… like Applebees quality food. We had heard good things about atmosphere and food… nope and nope. Not our thing.
March 22, 2017 at 9:40 am #18809On your honeymoon! That just sucks! WE had a horrible experience at Rose and Crown. The service took forever and the food showed up cold. Even a talk with the manager didn’t go well. Never again!
March 22, 2017 at 9:49 am #18814For us, our first ever visit to Garden Grill for Dinner was a pleasant surprise. We were no strangers to family style dining at Disney having been to ‘Ohana and Liberty Tree Tavern, so we figured we’d try it out despite the mixed reviews. We couldn’t have been more pleased by the food and service! The beef and fish were our heavy favorites. We also enjoyed the rolls and very fresh salad. We don’t generally seek out Character meals unless the food is worth the trip too, but we had fun with Chip, Dale, Pluto and Mickey! We have been back another time since which was equally as good and have it reserved for our next trip. Looking forward to it!
Have to think back on our other dining experiences and see if I can remember more surprising ones.
March 22, 2017 at 9:53 am #18817Raglan Road…the restaurant was so cool and we got these big chairs in front of the fireplace…and then the food came. Blech. Thank goodness for dessert cuz our main meals were a big miss.
50’s Prime Time is supposed to be great…everyone goes on and on about it but the first time we tried we waited an hour past our reservation time and never got seated and we left. The second time was good and the food was good…but does anyone else notice a funky smell in dad’s lounge? dare i say the smell reminds me of vomit? we won’t be going back.
Morimoto Asia…loved it. the restaurant was so pretty, good service, excellent food and my Vietnamese coffee was to DIE for.
March 22, 2017 at 9:57 am #18821@jamiedawn27 – We never went to Raglan Road, but we did try Cookes of Dublin, the walkup, one night and that food was really good! We were in the Springs pretty late and just famished and so many places were closed but they were still open and we’re like “Well it’s food..” but we were very surprised by what we got. Have you ever given that place a try?
We haven’t been back there since that night so we could’ve just hit them at a good time.
March 22, 2017 at 10:31 am #18841Our last visit to The Garden Grill left a lot to be desired. We’ve been there more times than I can count over the years, but our last trip was myself, my husband and my brother. All adults. The food was fantastic, the server was great at coming around and asking what we wanted more of, but he neglected to keep our drinks refilled. The most disappointing part was the characters. They kept walking by our table and never stopped. We had to flag them down to get them to interact. At first I thought that was because we were eating the first time they came by, maybe they’ll stop next time. Nope. We did it for the experience (the characters and rotating through the scenes of Living With the Land) as well as the food so we were disappointed. This was our first visit to The Garden Grill without children. We got plenty of attention from the characters at Tusker House earlier in the trip, which was a group of 5 adults, so I don’t know why that happened here. When they did stop it was extremely brief. The restaurant didn’t seem all that busy either, we actually had a reservation for an hour later but tried to get in early and got seated immediately. At least the food was good.

March 22, 2017 at 11:22 am #18845@Acamm We also ate at Rose & Crown last month too and the fish & chips blew me away! Now whenever I get fish & chips anywhere else, I’m always comparing it. Hahah, it’s ruined fish & chips for me everywhere else!
March 22, 2017 at 12:50 pm #18855@bgabe7 Yes I can totally see that!! Their Fish & Chips are delicious! Unfortunately, last year I was diagnosed with a Gluten Allergy and can’t eat them anymore due to the breading! :'(
March 22, 2017 at 2:47 pm #18877when we went 4 years ago to Mama Melrose’s we had a waiter who told us he was deaf and read lips very well, he was by far one of the best waiters we ever had ! He was a little hard to understand but was so nice and we loved him so much I hugged him when we were done with dinner

Well it’s made by authentic British chefs right? Gotta be the best!
March 22, 2017 at 3:09 pm #18886I understand. I can’t eat nachos anywhere but Mexico now. It’s just not the same.

The girl behind the counter was sooo confused, she got our order all wrong, wrong entrées, wrong drinks, in the confusion I ended up with a tomato and cheese flatbread which wasn’t on my bill and it was the worst thing I have ever eaten at Disney. Good thing it was free!
