I am just starting to plan a trip to Disneyland Paris. It is hard to find information. How do I begin the planning process (besides going to a travel company)? What are your experiences with the planning/park?

@laprana has been there and I think @starbee has too. I’d wait and see what they have to say :) Oh and @kcboston has too!

Hi @tlc423 where would you be travelling from? US? UK?

I did visit Disneyland Paris a couple of years ago! I only got to spend one day there, but it was great! I agree, though, that it can be kind of difficult to find info on. I got most of my info from the park’s website, and some other online sources like All Ears. I also downloaded the park’s app and that was helpful, especially once we were there. I’d be glad to try and answer any questions you have!

Haha, at this point, I don’t even know what questions I have! There would be about 3 families going (including a few teenagers) and all 3 families are familiar with Disney parks, mostly WDW. With so much available on the US Disney parks and someone who likes to planning everything, it is quite difficult to do so with DLP.

My wife and we’re there in ‘08… we traveled by train from Paris. We only spent 1 day there. The cast members there were not as friendly as the cast members here. The guests were more rude to. Kindof ruined everything for us so we never ventured back during our visit to Paris. That was 12 years ago so things may be different.

I went last year and the year before. I didn’t stay on Disney property though. We just did a day trip from the city. In all honesty, it doesn’t warrant much more than that. I do know that you can’t really book restaurants unless you’re willing to call overseas or wait until you get there. Don’t really plan on doing a typical planning session for DLP the way you do here. My advice would be to wing this one. It’ll be much easier that way. It’s a beautiful park I assure you, but don’t center your trip to Paris around it.

Sadly I’m not much help here. I have been but it was a long time ago, I was 13, living in France and I went with friends. We flew from Nice to Paris-CDG. We had one day at the Disneyland park and honestly I don’t remember a whole lot other than the Indiana Jones coaster LOL

I’m afriad i’ll not be much use either, only time i went to paris we went via the Eurostar from St Pancras. I know Air France (the french flag carrier) flies from a lot of US states direct into paris. Otherwise you could fly via icelandic air also into france, or via British Airways or Virgin atlantic into Heathrow and get the Eurostar or a connecting flight to paris (flying would very likely be cheaper)

Are you planning on going to just Disney or is this mainly a Paris trip? We took the metro from Paris at no extra cost and got dropped off at the gates. My suggestion would be to stay in Paris and ride out to Disney as often as you want. We enjoyed all of the atmosphere of the city with the cafes and bakeries etc.. and were glad we didn’t stay on Disney property. We did go into the Disneyland hotel to look around and it’s nothing like what we’re used to here in the states. The lobby was on par with a 3 star I would say. A nice 3 star mind you, but we didn’t find ourselves saying, “OMG we should have stayed here!” It was much more scuffed up and worn than what you see here. I would do 2 or 3 days max at the parks and their Downtown Disney area…all walking distance from each other, more like Disneyland CA. We booked our flight AND hotel through Hotwire and for 9 days it was only $919 each. Yep, you heard me right. We bought our 1 day park hopper tickets both years, through a site called Piqnic. I’ll look for the link. We had no problems at all. Printed them off at home and that was our gate ticket. No hassle. I believe the cost was only 64 euros! A nice surprise since that was maybe around $80 American. Neither park has much more than burgers to offer for counter service. We wanted to go to Remy’s but they were booked and we didn’t know how to make reservations there. It wasn’t worth getting an international phone plan to make dinner ressies and from what I understand, it can cost a small fortune to make an international call without one. We walked in to a little dinner show type place in the frontierland section and we’re seated.

Here’s what to expect. When you get to Paris, you will feel completely lost and unless you try to speak a little French, they will not be keen to help you. Do not go up to people and lead off with “Parlez vous Anglais?” They will say NON! BUT if you learn a couple of key questions in French and start trying to ask in French, they will automatically switch to English. It’s weird. I wouldn’t call them rude like we’ve always heard, but I liken it to how we Americans will say, “You’re in America, speak English!” yeah…same attitude applies there only they don’t say that behind our backs, they do it to our faces lol. What’s really going on is that most of the people CAN speak English but they aren’t that confident speaking it so they hear you struggling with French and then they feel better about their spotty English. Or at least that’s what I’ve been told. You will have no problem at your hotel because both times I’ve learned what to say when I go to check in and they pretty much speak English from the jump. I also learned that no matter where you go, you ALWAYS say Bonjour Madam or Monsieur. Not doing this each and every time you enter a store or anywhere is the exact reason that they think WE are rude. They don’t like loud at all. You pretty much don’t do more than whisper on the metros. If your group is loud, be prepared to be shushed or cussed out lol. Wear a lot of black to fit in. My sister had a pink coat and she stood out like the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man. I don’t know about Summer there but if you don’t have a black or drab colored coat, you’re going to look very obvious. It’s weird. If you have any questions just let me know. I’ll do my best to answer what I can.

Thank you, that is a lot of great information. Our main focus is to go to DLP, we haven’t thought about seeing things outside the parks, but again, we are JUST starting the planning process. My bestie said, hey lets go and I started my internet search which came up a little short so I turned to the experts.

Would people suggest looking at a travel agent to do some planning or is it best to just go your own?

thanks for all the help and guidence!
