Are you planning on going to just Disney or is this mainly a Paris trip? We took the metro from Paris at no extra cost and got dropped off at the gates. My suggestion would be to stay in Paris and ride out to Disney as often as you want. We enjoyed all of the atmosphere of the city with the cafes and bakeries etc.. and were glad we didn’t stay on Disney property. We did go into the Disneyland hotel to look around and it’s nothing like what we’re used to here in the states. The lobby was on par with a 3 star I would say. A nice 3 star mind you, but we didn’t find ourselves saying, “OMG we should have stayed here!” It was much more scuffed up and worn than what you see here. I would do 2 or 3 days max at the parks and their Downtown Disney area…all walking distance from each other, more like Disneyland CA. We booked our flight AND hotel through Hotwire and for 9 days it was only $919 each. Yep, you heard me right. We bought our 1 day park hopper tickets both years, through a site called Piqnic. I’ll look for the link. We had no problems at all. Printed them off at home and that was our gate ticket. No hassle. I believe the cost was only 64 euros! A nice surprise since that was maybe around $80 American. Neither park has much more than burgers to offer for counter service. We wanted to go to Remy’s but they were booked and we didn’t know how to make reservations there. It wasn’t worth getting an international phone plan to make dinner ressies and from what I understand, it can cost a small fortune to make an international call without one. We walked in to a little dinner show type place in the frontierland section and we’re seated.
Here’s what to expect. When you get to Paris, you will feel completely lost and unless you try to speak a little French, they will not be keen to help you. Do not go up to people and lead off with “Parlez vous Anglais?” They will say NON! BUT if you learn a couple of key questions in French and start trying to ask in French, they will automatically switch to English. It’s weird. I wouldn’t call them rude like we’ve always heard, but I liken it to how we Americans will say, “You’re in America, speak English!” yeah…same attitude applies there only they don’t say that behind our backs, they do it to our faces lol. What’s really going on is that most of the people CAN speak English but they aren’t that confident speaking it so they hear you struggling with French and then they feel better about their spotty English. Or at least that’s what I’ve been told. You will have no problem at your hotel because both times I’ve learned what to say when I go to check in and they pretty much speak English from the jump. I also learned that no matter where you go, you ALWAYS say Bonjour Madam or Monsieur. Not doing this each and every time you enter a store or anywhere is the exact reason that they think WE are rude. They don’t like loud at all. You pretty much don’t do more than whisper on the metros. If your group is loud, be prepared to be shushed or cussed out lol. Wear a lot of black to fit in. My sister had a pink coat and she stood out like the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man. I don’t know about Summer there but if you don’t have a black or drab colored coat, you’re going to look very obvious.
